Crossroad series - Part II

When I started the series, I didn't know where the paths would take me, and even wondered at times if there was any point in continuing this topic.  All roads however lead somewhere, and I wanted my Art to point out the way, taking me intuitively to places that would allow me to expand and progress on another level.  It is still currently a work in progress, but American landscapes have manifested, and especially regions such as California and New Mexico.

 Crossroads series - Part I

This series explore the theme of crossroads as a metaphor for every moment in life when one needs to take a decision, and not knowing the outcome.  I started with figurative charcoal drawings which gradually evolved into more abstracted compositions, and eventually I moved into oils exploring colours and textures.  It is still an ongoing process.

" I went to see the Gypsies"

This series allowed me to re-explore a theme that keeps re-occurring in my mind: the female energy through the personality of gypsies, travellers and outsiders.

The work seeks to express visually how these women, whose life is on the road, differ from the modern women who often try to fit society's expectations. These 'gypsy' women have their own rules and are not seeking to blend within society. As female, their energy can be very powerful and mysterious. The number of nomadic people and migrants currently exposed in the news due to war and political conflicts may have triggered my need to paint again those 'on the road'.

It is also an homage to all the gypsies who went through persecution during the Nazi regime, a genocide which unfortunately has often been forgotten by the general public.

The titles of my paintings remain important throughout the process as they help me to feel and identify with the subject.  Please click on the images to read.
